CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring an innovative variable-aperture camera and the new A20 Pro processor. These models also boast extended battery life, advanced professional camera controls, and a more compact Dynamic Island. Both devices operate on iOS 27 and incorporate Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI. The new lineup is available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders commence on September 12, with the initial retail launch scheduled for September 18.

For the first time on an iPhone, the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera introduces adjustable aperture control. Six laser-cut blades shift among four aperture settings to optimize light intake and depth of field. Users can manually select these options within the Camera app. Additionally, new Pro controls provide direct access to shutter speed and white balance settings. A histogram feature enables photographers to monitor exposure levels while framing their shot. Apple has also enhanced Photographic Styles with options for texture and grain adjustments, allowing for further customization before sharing images.
Video recording capabilities on the iPhone 18 Pro series have been upgraded. Users can add Cinematic effects after filming at up to 60 frames per second. The new time-lapse mode now records in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Improvements in Audio Mix algorithms enhance voice clarity and can isolate music. A new Apple Reference Image function captures signed sensor data in an optional Reference mode, which Private Cloud Compute then processes to generate a reference image. This image can be compared with the original photograph within the Photos app.
Camera enhancements emphasize control and verification of images
Powered by the A20 Pro chip, which utilizes a 2-nanometer process, the device combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance improvements of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores dedicated to AI processing and computational photography. The thermal system has been redesigned around a next-generation vapor chamber, with a surface area three times larger than previous versions, supporting up to 40% higher sustained performance, according to Apple testing.
Battery life has improved across both Pro models, with eSIM-only variants gaining extra capacity due to the removal of the physical SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback under Apple’s test conditions, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 45 hours. Wired charging can achieve 50% in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only versions will be released in markets including Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and others supported.
